Specialties and Expertise:
Profile
I’m a bilingual practitioner, a harm reductionist, queer, and neurospicy; still recovering from 8+ yrs in social services.
Background: While my parents and I were born in La Habana, my mom’s family is from Las Tunas and my dad’s family is from Villa Clara. I’m still doing a lot of my own ancestral work, in order to better understand my family’s roots and cultural history. In the United States, I grew up in the working class; my mom has worked primarily in retail and childcare while my dad’s worked primarily in construction and maintenance.
Approach: Centers on systems, including family (chosen, blood, etc.), cultural histories, and community. My work with relationships and families creates a space for resolving issues, managing conflict, and developing a greater understanding of personal autonomy and relational values. I incorporate my own lived experience and healing into the therapy process. I also draw from strength-based and solution-focused approaches, Narrative Therapy, Single Session Walk-in, EMDR, and Common Sense Parenting. Most importantly, those who come to therapy are the experts of their own lives; change and resolution exists within the gifts and abilities that are already present in each of us.
